Clocks back

Thanks to all the players and parents for who came this Sunday - to those who couldn't get down, for whatever reason, here is a brief update on what you missed.

Players started with a great warm up game of tunnel tag or "scarecrow tag" as they like to call it. After a couple of rounds of great individual running and evasion, we changed the emphasis so that they looked to "free" as many team mates as possible. My clickers came in handy and the players managed to increase the numer of times they got their team mates free - great work!

We moved on to the favourite game - Bulldog! In this version we had Phe's older sister, Katie (11yo) chasing down the Under 7s. She found it tougher than expected, so great running, evasion, and pace guys! In the end, George R came out on top - well done George! Next up we had George R and Tobi as the "taggers" and they did really well. It's important that I get the players to practice on all aspects of the game - especially the bits they maybe don't like as much, or that they need to improve on. If I can find a way to make it fun and enjoyable I will - I certainly don't want anyone to be turned off by rugby!

Next we played a 10 minute match just for practice ahead of next weekends fixture against Ilkeston & Mosborough. George R, Phe and Ollie took on Tobi, Seb and Otis. This was really high scoring and finished 7-7 in the end (although I don't like to keep score!). Of particular note was the pass and support - Ollie got tagged and quickly turned and passed to George who was in space and ran in for a try. The other team did really well with tagging and this was probably their weaker side of the game. Well done all - they have all come on in terms of learning the game, amazingly since the start of September.

Finally we played a chaotic game of Dragon's jail break Nest (name suggestions on a post card). This game involved two teams, running to the other end of the pitch to reclaim a ball "egg" and taking it back to their camp before being tagged. We had some ingenious moments, including Seb carrying three balls in one go, and Phe throwing one ball out to trick the taggers and then running the other way. All in all, really creative and completly within the rules we set, so top marks!

Hope everyone is feeling better and look forward to seeing you next week!
