A Thorn between Roses (maybe …one day)

Scott, our first XV captain dropped into the girls’ training session last Thursday to congratulate Jess, Artemis, Jess, Mayia and Sofia from our U16 squad who have been selected to participate in the NLD area’s England Rugby Developing Player Programme.
The DPP is a training programme to develop promising players within the England Rugby player pathway.
Chesterfield is one of the partner clubs who are working together in the North Derbyshire area to create a viable playing offer for girls to transition from mixed rugby at U11 all the way through to the adult game, and a pathway to access representative rugby at County level and beyond. By combining resources and bringing what would otherwise be part teams of girls, the NLD clubs of Dronfield, Chesterfield, Tupton, Matlock, Belper and Ashbourne (and our friends at Sheffield Swans over in Yorkshire) are starting to see some real success. All together we have nine girls in the DPP this year from the North Derbyshire U16 squad which is a fantastic achievement for both players and the combined coaching team.
So, if there are any girls out there in the North Derbyshire area who want to give rugby a try, get in touch with any of the clubs listed above and help us continue to build on this success.
