Buxton welcome Panthers to Sunnyfields, for the first game of the 2013/14 season. The away game saw Chesterfield Panthers subjected to a lively and at time intimidating home crowd. However, this only added fire to Panthers bellies but, unfortunately this was not enough.
The first game in the NLD Plate was never going to be an easy fixture. Playing opponents from a higher level and with several key players missing made the task even harder for the Panthers.
From the onset the home side started in a robust fashion and the Panthers tried to stand firm against dubious tackles. Buxtons first try was not without controversy, the scoring player clearly put his foot into touch but the home sides linesman"missedd it"
Buxton dominated the first half scoring two more converted tries. With the Panthers only try coming from Jordan Grayson, Liam Alford added the convesioin. At the interval Buxton led by 19 points to 7.
The Panthers came back in the second half and took the game to the home side. A chip over the Buxton back line by Liam Alford was expertly caught by Tye Rose to touch down. Panthers only other score of the game came from a try by Rob Collins. Panthers by this time where on top but a string of injuries meant a complete re-shuffle and the impetus was lost.
Buxton scored two more converted tries and a penalty to finish the game 34 points to 17 victors.
