Chesterfield Panther 1st XV vs. Barton-under –Needwood 1st XV

Panthers played hosts to Barton in this round of the RFU Cup. With one eye on next weeks top of the table clash with Amber Valley , Panthers chose to rest a number of key players. And with no disrespect to the standins their performance reflected the squad, in fact a number of players expecting to be picked next week did not in all honesty perform as one would have expected. This should in no reflect the performance from Barton, who where obviously, from the start more “up for it” They took the game to Panthers from the onset scoring two tries and converting one in the first half. Panthers pack dominated the scrums and mauls but a string of knocks on dropped passes and at times strange options prevented a try, when it seemed easier to score than not. As it was it was left to the trusty boot of Liam Alford who converted three penalties.
Panthers in the second half looked to have sorted themselves out, but missed tackle after missed tackle allowed the visitors to score three more tries and two conversions. Panthers only reply was a penalty try converted by Liam Alford.
In the end Barton where worthy winners and we wish them well in future rounds. Acting captain Rob Collins said ,” its never easy to loose a game,it hurts but the focus for the club is on the league. All the players are up for it next week, and make no mistake we will come out firing on all cylinders”
