36 man squad travel to the vale

The Panthers looked to blow off some cobwebs and apply some of the preseason work with a friendly game with Midlands 5 club Medenvale, with only one fixture arranged it was decided to travel with all available players this amounted to 36 players that was split into two teams plus subs.
The game was split into four twenty minute quarters with team interchanges at each interval! Despite the disruption in continuity and the lending of several players to the opposition the fans we 're awarded an entertaining game of rugby.
It was Panthers who looked the most likely to open the scoring in the early exchanges but poor discipline gave the home team 3 early points via a converted penalty, the Panthers responded immediately gaining field position from the restart putting the phases together to create a excellent backs try scott and Matt bursting through to set up Ross bowskill for an unconverted try.
Again Panthers gave away penalties a fantastic kick from values fly half left the Panthers defending a lineout 5 metres from the try line, there pack took advantage with a clean take the resulting drive leading to their first try unconverted. With the score against them the Panthers needed to step up the intensity rich keeling doing this putting in a thunderous tackle on ex Panthers prop Terry tit! Unfortunately the ref deemed this illegal putting rich in the sin bin and the Panthers down to 14 men, this was the wake up call we needed as the pre season work started to come together with constant gain line breaches Jamie Barnett and Lee Laughton got quick successive trys both converted by pedders, not to be outdone and with quick clean ball being generated from the pack the backs got in on the act cutting loose on several occasions foreword passes costing two trys but the moves were slick quick and eventually did the trick Jake Blair finishing off a great move.
Meden vale hit back with two well worked trys but it was Panthers who had the last word with impressive full back Glenn Grayson grabbing a try and looking sure to get another straight from the restart unfortunately for him jack short had been lent to vale for the last quarter of the game putting in a bone crunching tackle on his team mate to prevent the try.
Final score vale 18 - 24 Panthers
Joint captains Lee Laughton and Ryan Hanes both praised there teams performance recognising the application of work on the training ground as did the coaching team as with any team work to be done but a satisfactory start to the pre season campaign.
Joint men of the match goes to two newcomers who plaid most of the game for vale Tom senior and SA Bruce.
