The Panthers travel over the border to take on local rivals ashfield!

The Panthers travelled in mass with both the first and second team down at local rivals ashfield, again the traveling fans were out in numbers to support the lads and lend there vocal support to the players.
It was going to be a big task in the bottom of the table clash both teams playing to maintain league position but also local pride.
The game started very evenly exchanging penalties and field position,it was discipline or lack of it that allowed ashfield to gain the upper hand chesterfield giving away to many penalties leading to points from both the boot and via two converted tries, despite this and after stern words from captain Lee Whitmore the discipline improved, this not only got on the right side of the ref but allowed for the Panthers best spell in the game Adam pedley kicking a penalty. And then with the pressure building the turning point in the game arrived unfortunately that was to turn in the home teams favour!! With the try line in touching distance and ashfield down to 14 men it was a case of when not if the try was going to come but chesterfield looked to move the ball wide early this was well read by the ashfield centre who intercepted the pass running the length of the field to score a converted try just before half time.

Half time score ashfield 23 - 6 chesterfield

The second half was in all fairness ashfield the Panthers struggling to pick themselves up from the missed opportunity just before half time but despite defending for most of the half the spirit attitude and commitment never dropped battling and working hard to the final whistle even managing to get Adam pedley 3 more penalty points to add to his total.

Final score ashfield 54 - 9 chesterfield

Captain Lee Whitmore praised his troops for there never say die attitude urging them to attend training next week and extolled the attitude of this very young New look side.
Man of the match rich keeling for tackling his heart out and not taking a backwards step.
Special mentions to the whole team who despite the scoreline dug in until the final whistle showing an attitude which makes a coach very proud.
