Chesterfield Panthers 2's 8, Ashbourne 20
T: Connor Decosta
DG: Phil Cawthorne
The game was very even flowing either way, and both teams had chances to score. Panthers working well from inside Ashbournes 22 had a series of pick and drives, creating the space for a drop goal by Phil Cawthorne to take the lead. Ashbourne were reduced to 14 due to constant killing of the ball and then throwing the ball away. Despite the man advantage Panthers couldn't make it tell. To the frustration of their team manager Panthers allowed themselves to play a kicking game with a team far better suited to it, Ashbourne came forward and scored two un-answered tries with one converted.
Half time 12-3
The second half again was fairly even, though Panthers were winning their own ball on the line out but failed to capitalize. Loosing possession and this again allowed Ashbourne to kick up field. Good chase and pick up allowed them to run clear and score under the posts and convert. Panthers rallied and had a good spell of possession going forward well and form a series of rucks. Resulting in a penalty and Connor Decosta drove over to score. Ashbourne came back into the game and from a silly penalty they scored their final points to make it 20-8.
The better team won on the day, but Panthers weren't fully up to speed on the day. Man of the match goes to Jake Blair, no DOD cos Mongy wasn't playing.
