the young panthers edge a close and very physical game

tries jake blair 4 phil cawthorne 1 liam charlesworth 1
convs rich keeling 1 ali taylor 1

with the giants living up to there name we new every tackle had to count to stop this physicaly large team, so as the game kicked of could this very young team stop the giants the answer came within the first 2 mins the giants centre targeting the young centres of chesterfield unfortunatly for him scott w gave no quater driving him back several feet this set the tone for the next 30 mins of the first half big hit after
big hit stopping the giants in there tracks danny schum and steve allen making several of these, this paid off as chesterfield continuasly turned defence into attack resulting in two turnover trys 1 for liam charlesworth and 1 for jake blair this did 2 things it woke up the sleeping giants and allowed chesterfield to ease off in the next ten mins the giants scored 3 converted trys shocking the panthers into life again phill cawthorne again capatalising on turnover ball to score in the corner

half time score giants 21 - 15 panthers

several changes were made at half time this included having all 3 u17 players on the pitch but not a backwards step from either joe, lewis or ali.
chesterfield kicked into life and so did jake blair after spending all of half time and the first 10 mins of the second half throwing up(beer and rugby dont mix except on tour) he returned to the game giving ali taylor a deserved rest and pushing chris cooper into fly half this combination along with some great dumy lines from scott widowson and tireless work from the panthers pack gave jake 3 unansweresd trys 2 of which were converted the pick of these being the last one, the giants 9 who caused us problems all game with his direct strong running attempted to run it from his own 22 unfortunatly for him he picked cal draycott to run through what followed can only be described as a car crash the written of number 9 dropping the ball in self preservation the ever alert jake swooping in catching every one by suprise as they were still rubber necking the car crash scoring in the corner.

a very mature performance from a youthful team, testement from the team performance was even though jake scored 4 trys it was difficult to pick a man of the match this could have gone to any player on the pitch so good was the performance, step up lee whitmore who althoulgh changed to play decided not to play due to the physicality of the game and is glass body he opted for danny schum for his control of the game and countless big hits

well done to all special mentions to all the u17s they never fail to impress, to the ref who controlled the game and kept it flowing and woodhouse giants for there hospitality and providing such a great game of rugby.
