Well the forecast was correct and it was rainy. The players did well to keep going all the way through, and this was our first taste of what rugby can look like on a cold and wet Sunday morning (I predict more ahead!).
We had a few rounds of kabaddi style ball robbing which they seemed to enjoy. This was followed by the traditonal game of bulldog. Well done to those who evaded us all - there were 3 in end who just kept evading, which was great to see.
We tried the "jail break" game which worked to an extent but showed that we could communicate with each other more, and cover more spaces, but you know we're not expecting internationals at U7s. Well done those that tagged and those that escaped jail!
We played a quick 10 minute match and I saw some really good rugby things going on: -great evasion, good running at pace, tagging (and giving them back - good sportsmanship) and best try was definetly the one that involved 3 passes before the score :)
I was stricter with the players about staying within the pitch. I think they need to realise there are rules and that there is a outcome if you break the rules - in Bulldog it meant lose your tag! Top tip - if you are running towards the sideline, step back in!
The best was saved for the last game. George R came up with "Dragon's nest" game, which involved one player (the dragon) patrolling the balls (in the nest) and players took turns to evade the dragon and scoop up and egg and return. Great fun that one - thanks George R!
Next week we have a match at home against Matlock. Please put your player's availability into pitchero as far in advance as possible!
