Chesterfield Panthers U12s put in an excellent all-round performance to overcome Barlborough Juniors U12s 4-1, with goals from Henry (2), Alfie, and Gabe sealing the win in a lively encounter.
The Panthers knew they were in for a tough game having lost 4-3 to the same team only 2 days before in an even and close encounter against a well organised and physical opponent.
The Panthers struck first midway through the first half. Isaac powered forward with a strong run and unleashed a shot that took a deflection and fell perfectly for Henry, who made no mistake from close range to open the scoring.
The home side doubled their lead not long after in slightly fortuitous fashion. A hopeful ball played upfield by Alfie caused confusion at the back with an unfortunate mistake by the goalkeeper allowing the ball into the net.
Barlborough came out with more intent in the second half without creating any clear openings. However, they pulled one back when Panthers’ keeper George attempted to clear the ball, but it took an unfortunate deflection off a Barlborough attacker, bouncing into an unguarded net, making it 2-1.
Panthers responded immediately and superbly. Gabe showed great determination and skill driving into the box, before cutting the ball back where Henry arrived to drill home his second of the day and restore the two-goal cushion at 3-1.
There was drama late on when Chesterfield were awarded a penalty after Henry's cross was handled in the box. Henry stepped up looking for his hat-trick, but his effort rattled the crossbar and went over.
Still, the Panthers weren’t done. Isaac was involved again, weaving into the box and laying the ball across for Gabe, who finished with aplomb to make it 4-1.
