Following several discussions about the “persistent” rain, and chancing upon a slight easing of the monsoon like conditions, the decision was made to “give it a quick 20 and see how we go…”
After a quick discussion between Richard and Garvin about the number of players, Richard agreed it should be 6-a-side “lucky the coffee kicked in”.
With the weather easing slightly, and following a brief warm up, the 8s played well even in off and on drizzle. Thankfully the weather brightened up considerably which allowed us to play several games over the morning.
Richard managed to field many questions about his calls with tact and wisdom, from young enquiring minds, well mainly from one enquiring mind “Felix C” (and will also be receiving a copy of the U8s rules from Ben shortly).
Although not apparent at the time, it would seem that the passing training these last few weeks has started to pay off and the 8’s are starting to play as a team.
With all players showing energy and skill, and a marked increase in passing and catching ability compared to recent weeks, several players including Charlie, Ethan S, Ollie, Ethan L and Felix, showed great enthusiasm and engagement.
And finally, a big thank you to Ben, Daniel, Henry, Josh and Thomas for helping out Tupton and making up their numbers to enable the games to go ahead.
Overall a good first outing of the season, and we’ll all be looking forward to seeing how things progress over the upcoming weeks.
