U8s Host Mosborough on a Fresh January Morning

And it was a cold one, to quote Ben “Its fresh”. I think that was an understatement. By 10:00 the pitch was still pretty much frozen. (It was actually softer under foot at 8:30 when we did the pitch inspection - BP)

The next ¾ of an hour Ben and Garvin warmed up the squads. It must have worked by the cries of shock and awe from Emilio “Mum my hands are warm!”. The matches were played whilst one team trained with Ben and the other two playing against Mosborough. The consensus was to keep the squads playing and warm, even if sometimes one of the teams had an extra player. But by the end the kids were slowing down because of the cold.

The cold had some unexpected effects, one of which was Lewis could not remember how much money he had made.

With some good watchable rugby being played, “Good running evenly matched” especially when Richard remembers to start the stopwatch! Although one player forgot the most important point about scoring a try by being reminded by Garvin to “Put the ball down quickly”. Again, Ben and the other trainers work on passing whilst moving is showing improvement match on match. Some encouragement was still needed from Garvin at times to “Keep it moving”.

Again, thanks to Ben, Garvin, Dave, and Richard who’s hard work makes this possible, fun to watch and to Mosborough for giving us some good solid competition.

A big thanks to everyone for turning up in some rather refreshing conditions, and the kids certainly did us proud, although I think everyone was probably ready for a bit of a warm up by the time we wrapped things up. Great turnout yesterday with some fine performances all round. A quick thanks to Mosborough for providing excellent opposition and playing with a terrific attitude. Nice to see us looking to pass the ball whilst running a little more, and trying to keep the ball moving a little more fluidly. Also good to see our newer recruits getting some game time and blending in very nicely.
