After a short drive, we were welcomed by the Derby pitch and clubhouse bathed in glorious sunshine. After some discussion, the location for the match was worked out.

The usual suspects turned up from the training squad Ben, Dave, Andrew, and Richard.

The Panthers rolled out three teams to Derby’s two, which warmed up as the crowd/ Parents commented on how good the weather was as several stripped down to just one layer “The Horror! Should not be allowed”.

As two teams played, the third ran drills with Ben and Richard.

The teams were very evenly matched, and some good rugby was played, good running and passing is starting to form. Chaz was having a great game every time I look round he was making a try. Felix made a stunning run the full length of the pitch “might be a bit biased”. Many of the older players are moving towards contact which bodes well for next year.

Thoughts of today!

Dave: Good running, and good awareness on a narrow pitch.

Andrew: Good use of space, solid collection of tags, the team is now starting to shout for the ball using the players name. Training is starting to pay off in spades.

Richard: The pitch was not too boggy, Good use of space.

Lewis’s Mum: Hope Lewis did not score again, cannot afford it.

Felix: How much do I get for running the full length of the pitch and scoring?
Dad: The love and admiration of your team.
Felix: No I mean cash.

Thanks to Derby for a great day of rugby and a great venue and the usual suspects who make this possible. With today’s performance, it’s looking good for Ashfield on the 5th.

Yours Cookie (Roving Match Reporter, U8s) + proof-reading By Rachel

A quick thanks to Cookie for sorting the match report once again. Great to see such a strong turn out yesterday for some fantastic games of rugby. Some brilliant support play accompanied by calling for the ball and passing whilst still running, all very encouraging. As always a little more discipline in defence wouldn’t harm us, but at least we’re getting reset much quicker now. The kids all seemed to have a good day (which is most important) and I’d just like to quickly welcome Kris to Panthers U8s. To come down for your first session whilst we’re playing an away game against strong opposition and then play so well was pretty impressive, well done. It would be difficult to pick out too many other names as I thought there were some great performances across the board. Great effort and enthusiasm from all, long may it continue… - Thanks, Ben
